Abstract
The interaction between cationic methylene blue (MB) and chitosan in the presence of sodium dodecy1 sulfate (SDS) was investigated by means of pH, flocculation, and solvent effects. With increasing concentration of chitosan, metachromasy phenomenon by increment of monomeric MB in MB-Chitosan system not occurred. When the concentration of SDS was 1 mM, the transmittance of MB-SDS-Chitosan system was more high than MB-Chitosan system in flocculation. But MB-Chitosan system did not flocculate. Suspended solid had high flocculation at pH f 9 and low flocculation at pH > 12. When the concentration of added organic solvents was increased, the transmittance of MB-SDS-Chitosan system decreased greatly. At less than their 3075 concentration of organic solvents, removal of suspended solid showed better flocculation.
